Burçin Basar examines identity issues, social events, and the ideological structures imposed upon humankind by political processes. She embeds elements of horror and mystery into her works in addition to social violence and psychological reflections generated by pressure and chaos and researches sociological, psychological, and political structures and how they influence one another. Memory-related issues and the existential problems experienced behind political games are among the elements the artist is sensitive about and mentally includes in her creative process. Basar’s abstract imagery is shaped by her research on the problems she’s investigating (on large or very small scales). The artist’s approach proceeds from individual stories to generality, that are occasionally intertwined. Mostly interested in painting, Basar includes various mediums and materials such as sculpture, video, and installation into her artistic practice.
